Ted Stevens International, Anchorage, AK; 11 Apr 08

After a superb morning with the Army National Guard at Bryant Field, we spent the first of many afternoons at Ted Stevens International Airport. This airport is one of the busiest for cargo movements in the world, dominated by FedEx and UPS, with strong showings from China Airlines and Cathay Pacific Cargo, amongst others.

Geographically, Anchorage is conveniently situated at the "top" of the route network for many carriers, and this makes it very popular - routes from Europe, the lower 48 states of the USA and Asia intersect here, which makes it a good location for a "hub".

For our first visit to Anchorage, we spent several hours shooting the take-offs, with heavy cargo jets dominating proceedings.
