About the Photographer

I was born in Liverpool in 1977, and developed an interest in aviation from an early age. I started to attend air shows at the age of 11, with my first show being IAT 89 at RAF Fairford. My interest in aviation developed through air shows and holidays to East Anglia throughout the 1990s. During this time I was also able to sample flying through the Combined Cadet Force (RAF Section) which led to a flying scholarship in 1994.

After completing the flying scholarship, and some additional hours, my flying “career” was put on hold while I went to university, at UEA in Norwich, Norfolk. This was the time my interest in photography really developed, and I bought my first SLR in 1997. Flying was to become more than an interest or a hobby for me when I graduated from university. I was selected for sponsored flying training by UK airline, and sent out to the USA to learn to fly.

On completion of the course, I was assigned to the Airbus A320, which I flew for over 5 years, before moving on to long haul and the Boeing 747-400. The job gives me excellent opportunities for travel, and also to pursue my photography in some interesting and unusual destinations, including air shows in the United Arab Emirates and South Africa, as well as regular trips to the West coast of the USA.

My photographic equipment has changed over the years - I went digital in 2005, and now primarily use a Canon 30D with exclusively Canon lens. My current selection is 10-22mm, 28-135mm, 70-200mm F4L and 300mm F4L.
