Lake Hood, Anchorage, AK; 12 Apr 08

Adjacent to Anchorage Intl is Lake Hood. The shores of Lake Hood are home to the largest floatplane base in the world. There is also a short gravel runway for the non-float equipped types, and in total over 950 aircraft are based there! For much of the year, the lake is frozen, but ski-equipped aircraft are still able to operate from the frozen surface.

At the time of our visit, the lake was still very much frozen, but there was a great opportunity to photograph some of the based aircraft in the low, afternoon sunlight.
