Royal International Air Tattoo, RAF Fairford; 09 July 08

Due to work commitments, I was limited to only one day at RIAT this year, the Wednesday of arrivals week. The weather problems suffered by the RIAT team have been well documented, with the cancellation of the display caused by very heavy rainfall in the days preceding the show. One of the days which suffered heavy rain was the Wednesday of my visit - I think it actually constantly rained from the time I arrived at 0800, until the time I left at about 1700, apart form a brief pause at about 1600!

Although the weather was poor, there were still some photographic opportunities for the small group of photographers at the Western end of the airfield. Although the number of aircraft which make it down to the West end is limited, the location offers some nice views and backdrops for pictures.

Special mention must go to two groups of people. Firstly, the organising team of RIAT and the volunteers who gave there time to put the show together, and were hugely disappointed by the forced cancellation of the event. Secondly, I would like to thank my fellow photographers and enthusiasts who were there on the day - the constant banter and good humour made a day which should have been miserable, a lot more fun than it should have been!
