Wasilla and the Trip Back from Palmer; 13 Apr 08

After our visit to Palmer to see John Reffert and his C-119 project, we decided to visit the Museum of Alaska Transportation and Industry collection at Wasilla. Sadly, the museum was closed for the season, but we were able to shoot several aircraft over the fence.

Nearby was Wasilla Municipal Airport, where we found this Grumman Albatross and also a rather smart Ayres S2R-800 Thrush.

On the road back towards Anchorage, we spotted a sign for Birchwood Airport, where we were able to shoot two Civil Air Patrol deHavilland Beavers, in "interesting" weather conditions!

Next stop was Merrill Field, on the outskirts of Anchorage, and home to countless light aircraft, including some interesting types such as this An-2, which retains its Aeroflot colour scheme.
